Forthcoming events July - September Sunday 8th July Two Ems Valley Walks Join the Brook Meadow Conservation Group on either of their two wildlife walks following the course of the Ems as part of the Hampshire water Festival. Meet by the Brook Meadow Information Board in Palmers Road Car Park off North Street, Emsworth at 10 a.m. for a morning walk along the southern course of the Ems and meet there at 2 p.m. to explore the northern section of the Ems Valley. Please note that children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Friday 20th July Moth and Bat Garden Party If you go down to the woods tonight you won’t find teddy bears but there will be a party atmosphere when the Friends of Hollybank Woods hold their garden party. Highlight of the evening will be the flying by of bats and the dropping in of moths which will be identified by local experts. While you’re waiting for these guests to appear there are other attractions such as a story teller, face painting and a scary night time walk to keep you going. Of course you can chill out and enjoy a friendly evening in a beautiful local woodland glade. The part is being held in the Hollylodge glade in Hollybank Woods from 6 p.m. until midnight. Please bring something to sit on appropriate clothing and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Thursday 26th July ‘Meadow Medicine 2’ Once again Steve Taylor of the Medical Garden will show you herbs and explain their medical uses. Meet by the Brook Meadow Information Board in Palmers Road Car Park off North Street, Emsworth at 7 p.m. cost to non members £3 which give membership of Brook Meadow Conservation Group.
Sunday 23rd September ‘Meadow mowing for beginners’ Over the weekend the friends of Park Wood are cutting their meadows – part of annual management work to help keep the biodiversity of plants and wildlife in Park Wood. Come, help and learn about the importance of maintaining tradition meadows for wildlife conservation. Meet at the London Road entrance to Park Wood at 10 a.m.
Sunday 30th September Park Wood Festival Discover the joys of traditional crafts like bodging and weaving. Join the Friends of Park Wood at their Woodland Festival where there will wildlife stalls including birds of prey, information on local conservation organisations, demonstrations of traditional woodland crafts and skills and a host of fun activities that the whole family can take part in on the day. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Park Wood is on the London Road between Wallis road and Queens Road close to Waterlooville town centre.
